Anita L. Mitchell, age 68 of Manistee, MI died unexpectedly Wednesday, March 21, 2018 at Munson Medical Center in Traverse City, MI.

She was born April 16, 1949 in Detroit, Michigan and was the daughter of the late Gerald & Gloria Clausohm. Anita was a graduate of Meridian High School. She married Leonard D. Mitchell on August 2, 1967 in Sanford, MI. They had two children Andrew and Jennifer. After raising their family in Midland, MI, Anita and Leonard relocated to the Manistee area in 2001, where they could enjoy the "Big Lake" and Northern Michigan in their retirement years. Anita enjoyed fishing and assisting with her husband's charter fishing boat business, "Lucky Charm Charters".
Anita was a very talented seamstress, she loved intricate sewing projects. An avid quilter she was also was known for her handmade purses, clothing and accessories. She was a member of the Manistee Victorian Quilting Guild and Common Threads of Bear Lake.

For many years Anita enjoyed bowling with her friends on leagues in Midland and Manistee. She was a big fan of the Detroit Red Wings. An original "soccer mom" with her own children, she delighted in spending time with her grandchildren Samantha and Brendan following their sports interests.

Anita was a devoted mother to her children and grandchildren, a supportive partner and friend to her husband, a sweet and loving friend to many – she will be missed dearly.

She is survived by her husband Leonard of Manistee; her children and their spouses, Andy Mitchell & Norman Bistodeau, of Cedar, MI and Jen & Gary Walker; grandchildren Samantha and Brendan Walker, all of Byron Center, MI; one step-brother, Jim Pozenel (Cindy) of Midland, MI and her aunt Eva Taylor of Midland, MI. Her beloved dachshund "Patches" is also left to feel her absence.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her step-mother, Marie Clausohm and one step-brother, John Pozenel.

Cremation has taken place and an open house to celebrate Anita's life will take place on April 14th, 2018 at The Bungalow Inn located at 100 28th St, Manistee, MI where the immediate family will be present from 2 pm to 4 pm to receive extended family and friends.
