Obituary

Arthur "Art" S. Kolanowski, age 88 of Manistee, Michigan died Thursday, July 20, 2023, at The Maple Ridge Manor of Manistee.

He was born on April 19, 1935, in Manistee, MI., the son of the late George and Germaine (Muszynski) Kolanowski.

Art married Helen Noreen Brandis on Oct. 20, 1956, at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Manistee. After his marriage to Helen, he was employed in the beverage industry for nearly 30 years at Kowalski Distributing company.  After retiring from Kowalski's, he worked for Leisure Life Boats of Grand Rapids, delivering boats throughout states east of the Mississippi River.  His working life concluded after driving for Manistee County Social Services taking clients to doctors appoints all over Michigan.

He was an active member of St. Joseph Catholic Church, and all four his children attended Manistee Catholic Central School.  He was an active member of St. Joseph Civic Club and helped with cooking several dinners and parties over the years in the club built on Vine Street.  He was also lovingly referred to as Manistee's in-house webster due to his vast knowledge of people, places and things.

What we remember most about our dad is the loving care of his wife, and our mother Helen, during the years of her illness following a stroke and Multiple Myeloma cancer.

He is survived by one daughter, Pamela Janowiak of Indianapolis, Ind., her children Stefan (Sara) and Hannah; three sons, two daughters-in-law and one son-in-law, Reverend Ronald Kolanowski (Art Engler) of Storrs, Conn., and their children Joshua, Benjamin and Anna; Tim (Jeri Simon) of Manistee, his son Michael (Lauren) Kolanowski and great-grandson Brady; and Mark (Ann) Kolanowski of Grand Rapids and their children Mia and Leah; one sister Audrey and Ronald Deising of Manistee; two brothers Kenneth and Linda Kolanowski of Ludington and Richard (deceased Julie) Kolanowski of Ocean City, MD. Numerous nieces and nephews also survive him.

Art was preceded in death by Helen his wife of 56 years; an infant daughter, Mary Kolanowski; parents George and Germaine Kolanowski; father-in-law and mother-in-law Joseph and Anna Brandis; daughter-in-law Lori Kolanowski and eighteen brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law.
