Obituary

Barbara Ann (Skiera) Bauman, age 85, of Manistee, Michigan, died Sunday, May 5, 2024, at the Maple Ridge Manor in Manistee, surrounded by her family.

She was born on September 26, 1938 in Manistee, Michigan and was the daughter of the late Harry and Elizabeth (Zawacki) Skiera. She was a graduate of Manistee High School with the class of 1957. Barb started her working career, at the Bungalow Inn, for her Zawacki uncles. She then was employed at the F. W. Woolworth Store in downtown Manistee, behind the counter, at the soda bar.

Barbara married Harold M. Bauman Jr. on September 15, 1962 at Saint Joseph Catholic Church in Manistee. They started and raised their family for 55 years together, before Harold's death on November 19, 2017. After her children were grown, Barb was employed at Dewey's IGA store and later at the Baker's Dozen Shop, on River Street, where she enjoyed meeting people and talking about old times. She had a great sense of humor, and quick wit.  Barb loved cooking large Sunday meals for her family, as well as baking cookies with her grandchildren. Barb also in her spare time, enjoyed knitting, sewing, playing bingo with her friends, and taking long rides with a cup of coffee, but her greatest love was spending time with her family, especially the annual vacations at Glen Lake. She was a member of the Divine Mercy Parish of Manistee (St. Joseph Catholic Church) and a member of the Divine Mercy Rosary Society.

She is survived by her daughter Karen Bauman, her daughter and son-in-law, Debbie and Bill Miller of Muskegon, MI, and their children, Will "B.J." (Jordyn) Miller and Adam Miller, her son Bob Bauman and his children, Max Bauman, Cliff Bauman, Haley Bauman and her fiancée, Thomas LaJoie, and Madeline Bauman, her sister in-law, Marilee (Dennis) Johnson of Bear Lake, MI. Numerous nieces and nephews also survive her.
