Barbara Ann
Wehrmeister
Feb 15, 1928 — Jan 14, 2022
Manistee
After a brief battle with pneumonia, Barbara Ann (Rasmussen) Wehrmeister, passed away peacefully on the afternoon of Friday, January 14, 2022 at Munson Healthcare Manistee Hospital, surrounded by her children.
She would have been 94 next month and was looking forward to celebrating with bumpy cake and peanut butter lasagna. Barbara was born on February 15, 1928 to Lawrence and Inez (Jensen) Rasmussen, at Mercy Community Hospital in Manistee, Michigan. She grew up in Detroit and graduated from Cooley High School. While working at Blue Cross, she met the love of her life Arnold "Arnie" Wehrmeister. They were married at Zion Lutheran Church in Detroit on May 15, 1948. Together they had three children, Nancy, Kathy and Randy.
After Arnie's retirement, they left the Detroit area and moved back to Manistee, and made their home in the house that her grandpa Rasmussen built in 1899. She continued to live there with her dog, Toby, until she was admitted to the hospital on Wednesday. Barb loved everything about being a homemaker. Barb enjoyed crafting especially painting ceramics, X-stitching and quilting, collecting recipes, even though she didn't love cooking anymore, and reading, but most of all she loved "cleaning". Barb was a member of Good Shepherd Lutheran Church in Manistee, but most Sundays she could be found watching as many church services as possible on television.
Barbara loved her family and friends and will be missed by so many. She is survived by her children, Nancy (Eric) Folk and Randy Wehrmeister, her grandchildren Kristen (Matt) Switney, Kyle Wehrmeister and Kody Wehrmeister. She was Grandma Gigi to her beloved great grandson Samuel Switney. She is also survived by Al Vasquez who she frequently told was like a son to her, he checked on her every day and talked while he drank coffee, and also by her dear friend; Patti Irwin, her devoted dog, Toby, and numerous nieces, nephews and many friends.
Barb was preceded in death by her loving husband, Arnold "Arnie" Wehrmeister on June 14, 2012, her parents Lawrence (1963) and Inez Rasmussen (1981), her daughter Kathy (1958), by Lawrence "Duke" Jensen (1977) and Phyllis (Jensen) Evans (2003), who were lovingly raised by her parents, and so many other aunts, uncles, and friends who were anxiously waiting for her in heaven.
Funeral Services will be held on Monday, January 24, 2022 at 11:00 a.m. at Good Shepherd Lutheran Church in Manistee with Reverend Dr. Jeffray Greene officiating. Family will receive friends at the church one hour prior to the funeral service. Burial will follow at Oak Grove Cemetery also in Manistee. A lunch will be provided at Good Shepherd Lutheran Church fellowship hall following services.
A Memorial has been established in Barbara's name for Homeward Bound Animal Shelter, in her name and in honor of her beloved Toby. Envelopes are available at the funeral home and will be available at the church on Monday morning.
The Herbert Funeral Home of Manistee is in charge of funeral arrangements.
