Betty J. Bottrell, age 85 of Manistee, died Thursday afternoon May 4, 2017 at Munson Healthcare Manistee Hospital. She was born July 9, 1931 in Manistee, MI, daughter of the late Arthur & Berdelia (Bufka) Johnson. Betty married Howard S. Bottrell on August 27, 1949 at St. Mary of Mt. Carmel Shrine Catholic Church in Manistee. He preceded her in death on July 3, 2005. Betty loved camping and especially loved fishing on Lake Michigan. She also had a keen eye and enjoyed time outdoors Morel hunting. Betty also enjoyed crocheting. As a part of her Prayer Shawl Group, Betty crocheted shawls and blankets symbolic of God's unconditional love. Her prayer shawls provided comfort and solace to many and her talents offered uplifting affirmations for many during troubling times. In her younger years, Betty was especially enjoyed square dancing and along with her husband, Howard, were very active in Cub Scouts.

Betty is survived by 2 daughters & 2 sons-in-law: Terry & Greg Beattie of Petoskey, MI and Susan & Ron Budnik of Manistee, MI and 1 son & 1 daughter-in-law: Jeffrey & Karen Bottrell of Manistee, MI; Numerous grandchildren and great grandchildren; 2 sisters: Joyce Zavitz and Carol Quade. Numerous nieces and nephews also survive her.

In addition to her parents and husband Howard, she was preceded in death by infant son, Mark; son James and Grandson Benjamin and 2 brothers, Roger and Richard Johnson.

According to her wishes cremation has taken place and no services will take place at this time. In lieu of flowers, those wishing to express their sympathy are asked to consider a memorial contribution in remembrance of Betty to the charity of their choice.
