Dr. Byron Frederick Morris, age 78 of Manistee, MI passed away at Munson Medical Center Manistee Hospital on Tuesday, December 28, 2021.

He was born on July 29, 1943 in Montevidio, MN son of the late Byron M. Morris and Louella (Eckhardt) Morris.  Beloved husband of Carla (Briske) Morris.

Byron graduated at La Habra High School in California, Fullerton Junior College and Cal State College, Long Beach.  He received a PHD Doctorate in Marine Biology from Dalhousie University in Halifax, Nova Scotia, Canada.  Byron spent his working years in protection of wildlife and the environment, 7 years at the Bermuda Research Center where he had the opportunity to travel to Greece, Scotland and other parts of Europe, as well as Central America.  He then went to work for the Federal Government at NOAA in Anchorage, Alaska.  Later heading up the oil spill office in Juneau, Alaska, after the Exxon Valdez accident.

Byron enjoyed surfing & skiing as a teen in Long Beach, CA.  He owned sail boats in Bermuda & Juneau where he won 3 ^rd in the Alaskan In-Side Passage 3-day event race.  A man of humor & great intelligence, he enjoyed board games, video games and reading and over the years has loved six golden retrievers.

On June 21, 1987, he married Carla Briske of Manistee, MI at their home in Eagle River, Alaska.  At retirement in 1998, they moved back to Carla's hometown in MI.  He was loved and will be greatly missed by Carla's very large family.  He often graciously opened their home to gatherings for wedding and baby showers, graduations and the huge annual Christmas party.

Byron was very proud of his sons & granddaughters whom he loved very dearly.

He is survived by his son Robert (Patrice Dec'd) Morris and granddaughter Morgan of Orlando, FL, son Christopher Morris & granddaughter Olivia of Carolina Beach, NC.  He is also survived by his only sister Barbara (Ken) Martz of Park City, Utah, niece Rebecka (Kurt) Spencer of Burbank, CA, nephew John (Abbi) Martz of Park City, Utah, great niece Elsie Martz, great nephews Ricky Martz & Aksel Spencer, also wife Carla (Briske) Morris, Mother-in-law Carol Briske & all of her extended family.

In accordance with his wishes, cremation has taken place and a Celebration of his amazing Life will be planned at a later date.
