Edward L. Allen, 94, of Manistee, Michigan, peacefully passed away on Tuesday, March 3, 2026.
Born on September 6, 1931, in Marion, Ohio, he was the son of Franklin and Venus (Johnson) Allen. Ed proudly served in the U.S. Army, having been drafted in 1952, and was honorably discharged in 1954 after protecting the steel mills in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.
It was during his time in Pennsylvania that he met the love of his life, Elizabeth (Betty) McFarren. They married in April 1954 and celebrated an incredible 72 years together.
Ed began his career with the U.S. Forest Service as a fire watch at the Udell Hills fire tower, later transitioning to Michigan Consolidated Gas Company in Manistee, where he dedicated 30 years of service before retiring in 1991.
In retirement, Ed and Betty traveled extensively across the United States, exploring states like California, Colorado, Wyoming, the Dakotas, Alaska, Arizona, Nevada, Wisconsin, Florida, North Carolina, and South Carolina. He also enjoyed visiting casinos from Michigan to Las Vegas, as well as bowling, golfing, and raising horses. A devoted member of Divine Mercy Parish in Manistee, Ed touched many lives throughout his journey.
Edward is survived by his beloved wife, Elizabeth; six children: Lois Falconer of Colorado, David (Dan Reinoehl), Joseph (Ann Helminski), Elizabeth, Theresa Cosley, and Margaret Gowatch, all of Manistee. He also leaves behind five grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
In accordance with his wishes, cremation has taken place. Mass from the Order of Christian Funerals will be celebrated at 11:00 am on Tuesday, March 10, 2026 at St. Joseph Catholic Church (Divine mercy Parish). Burial will follow at a later date at Mt. Carmel Cemetery in Manistee. The family will be at the church one hour prior to the funeral Mass to receive friends.
