Elizabeth Elaine Skory age 91 of Manistee, Michigan, passed away on Friday, June 12, 2020, peacefully at her home of 66 years, surrounded by her family.

She was born on October 21, 1928 in Tate County, Mississippi, the daughter of the late Captain Floyd and Rosamond (Merrill) Dossett. Elaine came to Manistee on April 6, 1946, when her father became Captain of the STMR. Jupiter. She was a graduate of Manistee High School with the class of 1948. Elaine met Marion F. Skory at a baseball game at Sands Park in 1947 and they were married at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Manistee on February 19, 1949. While Marion was living they were very active with the Disabled American Veterans Manistee Chapter and with the Ladies Auxiliary. Elaine volunteered for over 49 years, with the American Cancer Society Manistee Chapter. She was employed as an accounting assistant with Carolyn Della Pia, Phyllis Greve and most recently with Jacqueline Baker. Elaine enjoyed working in her flower gardens, particularly her roses, and spent hours surrounded by them in her yard watching the traffic pass. She also enjoyed watching the freighters move up and down the Manistee River channel and receiving random visits from her great-grandsons and their friends, including providing them all with ice cream bars and a cold can of Coke or Sprite, which she kept well stocked for just such visits. She always looked forward to holidays and birthdays and other family gatherings at her house and in her yard. She LOVED feeding people and everyone that knew her herd the phrase "have some more: countless times! She was a member of the Divine Mercy Parish of Manistee (St. Joseph Catholic Church).

She is survived by two sons; David Skory of Manistee, MI, and Gary Skory of Midland/ Manistee, MI, two granddaughters; Jennifer (Mark) Cameron and Melanie Skory both of Manistee, MI, and her four great-grandchildren; Bryce, Noah and Caleb Cameron and Alec Weigold and her sister Adele Wooten of Senatobia, Mississippi. Numerous nieces, nephews and cousins also survive her.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Marion F. Skory, her son Steven T. Skory, her daughter in-law, Stacey (Tarr) Skory and by her two sisters, Dorothy Ferguson and Marguerite Neal.

Funeral services will be held on Wednesday June 24, 2020 at 4:00 pm at the Herbert Funeral Home in Manistee with Rev. Alex Kowalkowski officiating with graveside services at Mount Carmel Cemetery immediately following the funeral. Family will be at the funeral home to receive friends at 3:00 pm the day of the funeral. There will be a small celebration of Elaine's life at the Manistee Marina Building at 480 River Street from 6:00 pm till 8:00 pm on June 24, 2020.
