Gertrude F.
Smuda
Jun 30, 1921 — Dec 5, 2021
Gertrude F. Smuda, 100 years old, of Manistee, MI passed away on Sunday, December 5, 2021.
She was born on June 30, 1921 in Manistee, the daughter of Andrew and Agnes (Krusniak) Smith. Gert married Raymond J. Smuda in Camden, New Jersey on November 1, 1944, and worked at the Garment Factory until Ray returned from the war. She loved the home they built in Oak Hill, where they raised their family. Home and family were very important to her. Summers were spent picnicking, vacationing in northern Michigan, and gardening. She loved decorating for all the holidays and cooking and baking her famous recipes. She dressed up for Halloween trick or treating until she was in her eighties. Many years were enjoyed as a snowbird in Winter Haven, Florida and many Decembers were spent in Washington with her daughter, Carol's family.
She was a lifelong member of St. Joseph Church in Manistee, belonging to the Rosary Society for more than 50 years. Morning prayers and saying the Rosary were daily practices.
Her husband, Raymond, preceded her in death on May 25, 1994. She was very close to all her siblings, especially her brother Richard, until his death. Also preceding her were brothers Eugene, Floyd, Clarence and sister Phyllis Olen and their spouses.
Loving and missing her are her children Raymond (Pamela) Smuda, Pamela (Ronald) Minster, all from Manistee, and Carol (Randy) Rich of Bonney Lake, WA.
Gert will be dearly missed by her grandchildren Aaron (Jennifer) Smuda, Emily (Brendan) Downing, Alex Rich and Spencer Rich. She is also survived by great grandson, Tyler Smuda.
Aunt Gertie will be missed by many nieces and nephews and dear friends, especially Renee Zwiefka, who brought her communion for many years.
The family would like to thank Green Acres for the love and care they gave Gert these past months.
A Memorial Mass will be held in the spring of 2022. Memorials in Gertrude's name may be made to the Divine Mercy Parish of Manistee.
The Herbert Funeral Home of Manistee is in charge of funeral arrangements.
