Joan M.
Miller
Mar 25, 1941 — Dec 2, 2022
Joan M. Miller age 81 of Manistee, MI died Friday, December 2, 2022 at Munson Medical Center in Traverse City Michigan.
She was born on March 25, 1941 in Manistee MI, daughter of the late John E. & Bernice (Rakoniewski) Pieczynski. On June 10, 1961, Joan married Donald Miller at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Manistee.
Joan is best remembered for her creativity. As a floral designer, she routinely turned flowers into a visual celebration. But to her family, she will be remembered for using her craft making skills to crochet scarfs and slippers that kept us warm, and hats that made us smile.
Joan was a grower and a nurturer. She cultivated an award-winning garden in her backyard, and was the foundation of her family, challenging her children to always give their best. Joan instilled in her children the value of education and was incredibly proud that all of her children were college graduates. Joan delighted most in the little things of life. In addition to gardening, visits from her children and grandchildren and watching the Dallas Cowboys were often the highlights of her week. Joan was an example of strength and perseverance in all that she encountered.
In addition to her parents, Joan is preceded in death by her daughter Janice Miller and a sister Eleanor Walter.
Joan is survived by her husband of 61 years, Donald Miller, her children Michael Miller, Jodi (Mike) Chycinski, and David (Amy) Miller, grandchildren, Meaghan Beukema (Kyle), Justeene Miller, Aaron Chycinski, Jack Chycinski, Rachel Miller and Lindsey Miller, two great grandchildren and a sister Kathy Guzikowski.
Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday, January 6, 2023 at 12:30 pm at Saint Joseph Catholic Church in Manistee with Reverend Richard Bartoszek celebrant. The family will receive friends at the church on Friday morning, one hour prior to the funeral mass.
The Herbert Funeral Home of Manistee is in charge of funeral arrangements.
