Obituary

Our social butterfly, John Christopher Bartosz of Manistee, MI, formerly of Flint, MI passed away February 9, 2021 at the age of 65.

He was born on January 30, 1956 in Flint, Michigan son of the late Walter and La Verne (Gilbert) Bartosz.  He was a graduate of Flint Holy Rosary High School with the class of 1974.  John had several jobs before taking a job with Consumers Energy where he worked for 40 years, then retired on July 31, 2019.

After being together for 16 years, John and Chris decided to marry on July 27, 2019 in their backyard with family and a few close friends present.  He called his new family the "Brady Bunch" because there was now three girls and three boys.

John volunteered and worked in so many areas of the church, school and community.  He worked on countless chicken dinners for the MCCAA with his great friend Dan Hogan.  He was also part of the construction team for the MCC Harvest Fling bringing so many creative ideas to life for the event.  He worked on many church festivals and always welcomed new members to the community, just as he did in and around his home.  If anyone ever needed anything, John was always there cutting grass and snow blowing driveways.  When the weather was bad, he would do up to 5 driveways in one morning.  John served on the Foundation Board and was a dedicated member from 2005 to 2019.

He also loved hunting and fishing in the U.P. with his nephew Matt, and enjoyed golf, pickle ball and mowing his yard that he was so meticulous about.

John loved spending time with his family, especially his two grandsons.  John was active at St. Joseph Catholic Church and was a member of both the Elks and Moose Lodges where he volunteered cooking.  He had a special passion for the Elks where he cooked unaccountable dinners.  He was the head trustee for 25+ years and also held the highest office of Exalted Ruler for one year.

John is survived by his wife Chris, his son Paul, wife Angel, grandsons Nicklaus and Joseph of OK, son Mark, girlfriend Krista Chipman of WI, stepchildren, Amber (Olen) England, grandson Hunter England of Grand Rapids, MI, Amanda Olen of FL, John Olen, girlfriend Katy Kaminski, granddaughters Hope and Lillian Olen of WI, Melissa Schester of Manistee, MI.  He is also survived by his siblings, Threse (Bartosz) and Jim Klipce of Beaverton, Martha (Bartosz) Dave Ploof of Davison, Bill and Vicki Bartosz of Cadillac, MI, Peg (Bartosz) Scobie of Goodrich, Andrea (Bartosz) and Lenny Sly of Otter Lake and Tony and Maureen Bartosz of Manistee, MI.  In addition, he leaves behind numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

John was preceded in death by his parents, Walter and La Verne Bartosz, brother Alan Bartosz, brother-in-law Bill Scobie, father and mother-in-law, John & Kay Stec, sister-in-law Bonnie Boyle, nephew Dylan Boyle and niece Lacy Boyle.

Cremation has taken place and a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00 AM on Saturday, July 17, 2021 at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Manistee with Reverend Zeljko Guberovic celebrant.

The family will receive friends at the church on Saturday morning, one hour prior to the funeral Mass.

John was the most loving, kind, passionate, caring, warm, thoughtful, generous, tenderhearted person you could ever meet.  He will be missed by many.

The Herbert Funeral Home of Manistee is in charge of funeral arrangements.
