John
Morley
Jan 12, 1954 — Sep 4, 2025
Lansing
John Morley, 71, of Manistee, Michigan, passed away on September 4, 2025, in Lansing, surrounded by those who loved him most. Known for his baby face, infectious smile, and warm heart, Johnny was a beloved husband, father, uncle, and friend to many, whose gentle spirit and sense of humor brought joy to everyone he met.
Born on January 12, 1954, Johnny rooted his life in family, friendship, and the simple pleasures that made every day worth living. On September 4, 1994, he married Marsha Chmielewski, and become a loving dad to her three daughters: Theresa, Deana, and Alex. He cherished family life, often treating his nieces, nephews, and even his daughters' friends as if they were his very own. The dogs he "never wanted" quickly became beloved companions. Buddy and Boone were spoiled beyond words, earning a life fit for man's best friend.
A true car enthusiast, Johnny's happiest hours were spent tinkering on his Monte Carlo in the garage, attending car shows, or traveling to swap meets with his good friends Don, Jack, Nelson and Reid. He especially enjoyed days spent at Manistee Catholic volunteering alongside his long-time friends. He was always found at the grill, flipping hot dogs for Homecoming crowds, or working in the kitchen for various fundraisers.
Johnny's humor and playful spirit were his signature. He was notorious for attempting the serious "Morley look," which inevitably triggered laughter from anyone nearby. Later in life, as he slowed down a bit, he found comfort reminiscing about his hell-raising days and poker nights with the guys, or quietly sharing word search puzzles with his granddaughter Payton— forging a special bond they both treasured.
Johnny leaves behind his loving wife Marsha; daughters Theresa Jones, Deana (Andy) Grant, and Alexandera (Adam) Stevens; grandchildren Tony, Trent, Devon, Parker, Eragon, and Payton; as well as a large extended family who will miss him dearly. He is warmly remembered by countless friends whose lives he touched with kindness, fun, and generosity.
To honor Johnny's legacy, the family invites friends to share stories and celebrate his life at a gathering on Saturday, September 20th, from noon to 2 p.m. at Eastlake Township Hall. He will be laid to rest at Fountain Cemetery in a private family ceremony at a later date.
The Herbert Funeral Home of Manistee is in charge of funeral arrangements.
