John Howard
Stamp
Mar 22, 1933 — Mar 4, 2024
Manistee
John Howard Stamp, 90, of Manistee passed away in the early morning hours of Monday, March 4, 2024 in Traverse City, Michigan.
John was born on March 22,1933 to parents Elmer and Anna (Luczyk) Stamp, at the family's home in Oak Hill. After graduating from St. Joseph High School, John immediately enlisted in the United States Army as an anti-aircraft gunner and was sent to Korea for the war from 1952-1953.
John was an inventor and creator of many unique gadgets, along with being a logger and small engine mechanic throughout his lifetime. John was a lifetime member of the VFW Post 4499 in Manistee. Some of his favorite hobbies and pastimes throughout his life were playing the lottery, feeding the squirrels in his yard, hunting & fishing, watching old Westerns, along with reading the obituaries and reviewing them with his "right hand gal" Sherry. For 15 years he enjoyed adventuring the two-tracks with his faithful squirrel dog Ubu and together they would harvest 300-400 squirrels each season, after which she would be rewarded with a "boo-boo burger" from Rico's. We know he's meeting up with Doc and Betty to watch the Price is Right every weekday.
Surviving John are his children, Kevin (Kim) Stamp, Karen (John) Pomeroy, and Jason (Sherry) Stamp. He also leaves behind his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Along with his parents, John was also preceded in death by his sisters, Margaret (William) White and Mary Jane (Don) Karas.
John lived his life the way he wanted to, and left it the same way, on his terms.
John's family would like you to join them for a Celebration of Life, Saturday, March 16, 2024 at 1:00 PM at the Village of Eastlake Hall. The Members of the Manistee County United Veterans Council Ritual Squad will give military honors at 2:00 PM, with a meal to follow.
The Herbert Funeral Home of Manistee is in charge of funeral arrangements.
