Joy Marie Carlson, age 69, of Manistee, Michigan, died Sunday evening, March 17, 2024 at Munson Healthcare Paul Oliver Hospital in Frankfort, Michigan.

She was born on September 13, 1954 in Onekama, Michigan and was the daughter of the late Oscar and Patricia (Galwas) Carlson. Joy was a graduate of Onekama High School with the class of 1973. After high school she attended the Cadillac Academy of Beauty in Cadillac, Michigan. Most of her life she enjoyed "baby-sitting" for the families, while she lived in Onekama. After moving to Manistee, in 1990, Joy started her own business, Joy's Day Care which she operated until her retirement in 2006. She enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren and family, as well as spending time in the kitchen, cooking, for them.

Joy is survived by her daughter and son in-law, Kristina R. and David Brown, her grandchildren, Brett and Katelyn Brown, her brother and sister-in-law, Oscar and Karen Carlson, her niece Jennifer Carlson and Dameon Rohdy all of Manistee, MI, her nephew Jason and Tracy Carlson of Marlton, New Jersey, and her aunt, Barbara Galwas of Manistee.

Joy was also preceded in death by her maternal grandparents, George and Edna Galwas and by her paternal grandparents, Oscar and Isabelle Carlson.

Funeral services will be held Wednesday, March 27, 2024 at the Herbert Funeral Home in Manistee, Michigan, at 11:00 AM, with Reverend Mitchel Roman officiating. Burial will follow at the Onekama Village Cemetery in Onekama. The family will receive friends, at the funeral home on Wednesday morning, one hour prior to the funeral service.
