LaVerne J. Franckowiak age 78, of Manistee, Michigan died unexpectedly at his home on Tuesday, December 29, 2015. He was born in Manistee, Michigan on September 15, 1937 and was the son of the late Edward and Stella B. (Zywicki) Franckowiak. LaVerne was a graduate of Saint Joseph High School with the Class of 1955. He served in the United States Army during the early years of the Vietnam War from August 14, 1961 until August 23, 1963. He had been employed at the Morton Salt Company in Manistee in the Chemical Department for 26 years, until his retirement in 2000.

He is survived by his sons Todd and Ken Franckowiak and his step-son James Scott Franckowiak, his brother and sister in-law, Stanley and Patricia Franckowiak. Numerous nieces and nephews also survive him.
LaVerne was preceded in death by his brother and sister in-law, Richard and Dorothy Franckowiak and by his sister and brother in-law, Betty J. and Edward Merkey.

According to LaVerne's wishes, cremation has taken place and final interment will be in Mount Carmel cemetery in Manistee. There will be no services at this time.
