LeRoy Robert Fortier, age 80, died December 21, 2020.  He was born May 12, 1940 in Scottville, MI.  He grew up in Manistee and was a graduate of Manistee High School with the class of 1958.  He was employed at Hardy Salt for many years and had also worked on lower-laker cargo ships on the Great Lakes. He previously lived in Forte Wayne, IN, where he worked for Hi-Ranger, a bucket lift truck equipment manufacturer.

LeRoy liked working with cars during the hot-rod and muscle car era of the 50s and 60's.  He enjoyed reading old western novels then finding the movies on Cable TV; watching sports, especially football; listening to music with fervor of classic and hard rock, as well as growing tomatoes.  LeRoy also enjoyed chocolate Blizzards from the local Dairy Queen, playing BINGO and cards at the Senior Center and walking on the beaches of Lake Michigan.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Harold L. & Sylvia A. (Knowles) Fortier of Manistee.

He is survived by his son, Joshua Lee Fortier, Manistee; Sisters, Marlene (Ken) Etchison. Rice Lake, WI; Geri (Dale) Helminiak of Manistee; Alisa Bradford, Manton, MI and brother, Harold Jay (Jan) Fortier of Jenison, MI.

His family wishes to acknowledge and offer their appreciation and gratitude to the kind staff at Cedar Ridge and to his good friends, Les & Bonita Edikauskas and Jo Hall for their love, care, concern and support.

A memorial gathering will be held in Manistee in the summer with future details to be announced.
