Leslie Jane
Von Drak
Dec 19, 1954 — Jun 13, 2026
Scottville
Leslie Von Drak was born on December 19, 1954, in Detroit, Michigan to George H. and Lois (McCann) Von Drak. She spent her childhood in Dearborn, where she attended St. Alphonsus Catholic School and formed many lifelong friendships that she treasured throughout her life. In 1970 Leslie and her family moved to Hart, Michigan. She graduated from Hart High School in 1972 before continuing her education at Grand Valley State College (now Grand Valley State University).
While there, she starred as Emily Webb in the college production of Our Town. Her outstanding performance earned her many compliments from family, friends, and classmates. In 1975 Leslie moved with her family to Ludington, Michigan, where she worked as the Administrative Assistant to the Manager of Ludington State Park, a position she thoroughly enjoyed. Later, she accepted an administrative position with the State of Michigan in Lansing followed by many years working in the health clinic at the Oaks Correctional Facility in Manistee before retiring.
Longing for a place to call her own, Leslie fell in love with an old farmhouse on five peaceful acres in Scottville, Michigan. There she embraced the beauty of nature and the freedom of country living. The farmhouse became her sanctuary and her happy place. On her property was a beautiful apple tree that overflowed with flowers in the spring. Leslie loved to bake, and apples harvested from that tree in the fall turned into the best apple pies ever.
Leslie was preceded in death by her parents, George H. and Lois (McCann) Von Drak, and her brother, Peter C. Von Drak. She is survived by her loving sons, Joe (Jennifer) Vondrak and Charlie (Haley) Nielsen; her cherished grandchildren, Bella, Ellie, and Korbyn; her siblings, Claudia VonDrak, Debbie VonDrak, Mark Vondrak (Maria), George Vondrak (Diane), Marty (Jon) Graham, and Lois Gunberg, as well as several nieces, nephews, extended family members, and dear friends.
Leslie will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered for her kindness, wit, love of family, and appreciation for the simple beauty of life. Her laughter, warmth, and generous spirit will remain in the hearts of all who knew and loved her. Arrangements by Herbert Funeral Home, P.C. of Manistee, Michigan
