Marie prayed for someone to love; That very next week, she met Kenny on a blind date; Her prayer was answered. She was united in marriage to the love of her life, Kenneth O. Winberg, April 15, 1950. The shared 67 years of marriage together. He preceded her in death on Dec. 4, 2017.
Marie was a telephone operator until 1957, when their first child, Holly arrived. Their second child David arrived in 1959.
Ken was a Michigan State Police Trooper and the family was frequently transferred. They lived in Brighton, Ithaca, Blissfield and finally Lansing before retiring back to Manistee for peaceful living.
Marie enjoyed walking daily outside on the 40 acres from where she grew up on the farm. She always ate organic, which helped her live to be 95.
Some of her hobbies were walking daily outside on the property. Growing vegetables and flowers with her husband. Drying flowers from the garden, grape vine creations and crafts including knitting, and painting object & toys her husband made out of wood. Living on the farm where she grew up, she often preserved food, canning tomato juice, making wine, and drying and caring for the flowers from the extensive garden. With numerous flower beds enhancing the property, a pond with gold fish & feeding the birds keep her busy.
She enjoyed cooking and baking for her family and was known for her delicious meals. She had a large collection of cookbooks she used and also enjoyed giving away.
She was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church of Manistee where she participated in the church choir, was active church activities, bazaars and dinners. She had taken college level Bible classes and conducted women's Bible studies at her home in Manistee. As a steward of her faith, she was always active in her church where ever they lived; Teaching Sunday School, Vacation Bible School, Women's Bible Study and membership of the Ladies Aid over the years. Her Involvement in church activities encouraged and helped others in forming relationships with God and sharing the love of Christ.
Classical music was also one of Marie's joys. She played the piano and her dog 'Ruffus' would sing to "Amazing Grace" and when her brother came to see her, she would play "Bill Grogan's Goat" and he would sing the song with reference to their cow crossing the railroad track with the train coming.
