Mary Jane Karas age 89 of Manistee, Michigan died, Thursday, July 5, 2018 at her home unexpectedly. She was born on December 29, 1928 in Manistee, Michigan and was the daughter of the late Elmer and Anna (Luczyk) Stamp. Mary Jane attended Saint Joseph Catholic School in Manistee. She married Raymond Grabowski on April 12, 1947 in Manistee. Raymond preceded her in death on April 7, 1969. She later married Donald J. Karas on October 27, 1973 at Saint Joseph Catholic Church in Manistee. Donald preceded her in death on May 28, 2016. She was employed most of her life at the Manistee County Medical Care Facility, until her retirement. Mary Jane was a member of the Divine Mercy Parish (Saint Joseph Catholic Church) of Manistee. She enjoyed feeding and watching birds and of all the birds her favorite was the cardinal.

She is survived by her brother, John Stamp of Manistee, her brother in-law, William White of Wayland, MI, her sisters in-law and brothers in-law, Lenida Sobaski of Scottville, MI, Robert Racalla of Grand Rapids, MI, and Joan and Ted Edel of Ash Fork, Arizona. Numerous nieces and nephews also survive her.

She was also preceded in death by her sister Margaret White in November of 2016.

Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated on Friday, July 13, 2018 at 11:00 AM at Saint Joseph Catholic Church in Manistee, with Reverend Zeljko Guberovic celebrant. Burial will follow at Mount Carmel Cemetery also in Manistee.

Relatives and friends will pray the evening vigil service on Thursday evening at 8:00 PM at the Herbert Funeral Home in Manistee. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Thursday evening from 6:00 PM to 9:00 PM and on Friday morning from 10:00 AM until leaving for the church at 10:40AM.
