Phyllis Gertrude
Fedder
Nov 11, 1924 — Dec 29, 2018
Manistee
Phyllis Gertrude Fedder (Cha-Cha) was greeted at the gates of heaven by her Lord and Savior and her beloved husband Harry, on December 29, 2018 at 7:00 am. She died peacefully while under the excellent care of the staff at the Manistee County Medical Facility.
Phyllis and Harry met through their love of music and dance. Phyllis always said "The night they met, she was the only girl Harry would dance with." Her friends said, "he's the one!" And he was! They were happily married over 56 years from September 30, 1950 until Harry's death on September 20, 2007. Two of her favorite songs were "I just want to dance with you" By George Strait and "You are my sunshine."
As a couple, they loved to travel and Phyllis proudly and frequently shared the fact that they visited 48 of the 50 states.
Phyllis was very loyal to family. Although she and Harry were never blessed with children of their own, she stepped into the role of second mother/grandmother to the Dontz family after losing her sister Evelyn at an early age. She was always there to lend a hand with babysitting, shopping, cleaning, cake delivery, preparing food or whatever needed to be done.
She loved to play Bingo, Pinochle and was known to make an occasional trip to the corner (casino).
Phyllis was beaming when she heard that Meijer was coming to Manistee. She didn't think she would live to see that day. It was her favorite store. She got an invitation to visit the store before they officially opened. That was a very exciting day for her.
She always took pride in hard work and she was a very talented seamstress. She had numerous jobs throughout the years in the garment industry.
Cha-Cha will always be remembered for her generous spirit and her hunt for a good bargain. She was a member of the Divine Mercy Parish of Manistee (Saint Joseph Catholic Church).
The family thanks the staff at the Manistee County Medical Care Facility for taking good care of our beloved Cha-Cha.
She is survived by numerous nieces and nephews.
Phyllis was also preceded in death by her Sister Evelyn Dontz and by her brother Ray Banicki.
Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Friday, January 4, 2019 at 11:00 AM at Saint Joseph Catholic Church in Manistee with Reverend Zeljko Guberovic celebrant. Burial will follow at Mount Carmel Cemetery also in Manistee. The family will receive friends at the church on Friday morning one hour prior to the funeral mass.
A memorial will be established in Phyllis's name for the Manistee County Medical Care Facility. Envelopes will be available at the Church on Friday morning.
The Herbert Funeral Home of Manistee is in charge of funeral arrangements.
