Obituary

On Thursday, February 7, 2019, in Manistee, Michigan, Richard (Dick) Kamaloski, 90, peacefully passed away at home with his wife, Pat, and their dog, Abby, by his side.

Richard was born in Muskegon, Michigan, on April 9, 1928, to the late Peter and Irene Kamaloski. On September 10, 1955, at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Manistee, Michigan, he married Patricia Adamski, and remained happily married for 63 years.

He worked for the Corps of Engineers, before and after proudly serving in the US Army 45th Infantry Division during the Korean War, from October 13, 1950 until October 2, 1952. He was well known as a dedicated and friendly US Postal Service carrier throughout Manistee County, and was easily recognized by his license plate which read US MALE. He also worked evenings at Consumers Gas Company and often his children would enjoy taking turns working alongside him. His hobbies included collecting coins, postage stamps, beach glass and Petoskey stones as he enjoyed walks along the Lake Michigan shoreline. He was a member of the Divine Mercy Parish of Manistee (St. Joseph Catholic Church) where he was a past Eucharistic Minister and also a member of the Monsignor J. M. Steffes Council #853, Knights of Columbus of Manistee.

Dick was a loving husband, a proud father and grandfather who was ever encouraging, and whose kindness and gentleness will be forever remembered. He was blessed with six children, Ann (David) Gielczyk, Michael (Nan) Kamaloski, Jean (Bill) Knowles, Kathy Kamaloski, Karen (Oscar) Carlson, David (Wendy) Kamaloski, 16 grandchildren, one to which he was a father-figure for 9 years, and 5 great grandchildren. In addition to his children, he leaves behind his sisters, Arlene Brown, Shirley (Lane) Anderson, and sisters-in-law Betty Kamaloski. Joan (Jerry) Turbyville, Judy (Bob) Krueger, Lorraine Adamski, numerous nieces and nephews, and many close friends.

Over the past 25 years, one never knew who they might find staying at their house as Dick and Pat hosted many international students, and missionaries. As Dick's health declined, he enjoyed a special bond with his most recent exchange students Dana Sturm (Germany), and Ethan Cheval (France), and they with him.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Peter and Irene Kamaloski, and in-laws, Michael and Tracy Adamski, his brothers, Theodore (Peanuts) Kamaloski and Ronald Kamaloski, his sister, Gloria Brown, his brothers-in-law, Ralph Adamski and Frank Witucki, sister-in-law, Dorothy Witucki, nephew, Richard Kamaloski, and grandson, Andrew Gielczyk.
