Manistee

Obituary

Robert Allen Pelarski , age 77, of Manistee passed away at his home on November 18, 2021 after a short battle with COVID-19.

He was born on July 5, 1944 in Manistee, Michigan, son of the late Ted and Gertrude (Marquardt) Pelarski of Manistee.  He graduated with the Manistee High School class of 1962 and married Eileen A. Gielczyk at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Manistee, on June 10, 1967. Prior to his passing, Bob and Eileen celebrated over 54 years of marriage together.  In 2007 he retired from Martin Marietta after 37 years of dedicated employment.  He continued to be an active member of the United Steel Workers of America Local # 14450.

Bob was a member of the Catholic Community of Manistee, (Divine Mercy Parish) and volunteered as usher for many years.  He loved motorcycles and riding with his family and friends.  He was a social person and liked to go visiting and out for breakfast with fellow bikers.  Woodworking in his basement shop brought him much joy as he created everything from clocks to storage cabinets, with each item built with care and perfection and made to last.  He also kept busy maintaining the yard and the house.  There was nothing that he couldn't fix!

He is survived by his wife Eileen A. Pelarski, daughter and son in-law, Sherri and William Ely, son, Al Pelarski, brother and sister in-law, Donald and Sandy Pelarski and his sister and brother in-law, Alice and William Wandrych. Several nieces and nephews also survive him.

Bob was preceded in death by his sister and brother in-law, Sandra and Arnold Merkey.

According to Bob's wishes, cremation has taken place and a Celebration of Life will be held at 11:00 AM, on Tuesday, November 30, 2021 at the Herbert Funeral Home in Manistee with Mark O'Brien, Spiritual Care Advisor for Hospice of Michigan officiating.  The family will be receiving friends and family at the funeral home on Tuesday morning, one hour prior to the service.

In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to the Hospice of Michigan, as a thank you for their professional and compassionate care. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
