Rogene Marie Zatarga , age 94, passed away Monday, April 23, 2018, at Munson Healthcare Manistee Hospital. She was born October 30, 1923 in Stronach to the late Helen (Steinberg) and Frank Baker. She attended Stronach School, then as a young women contributed to the War Effort through employment in the WPA, and later was a seamstress at the Glen of Michigan. She spent most of her married life as a homemaker, but was also employed for a time at the Hillside Motel in Manistee.

She married Leonard Zatarga on May 4, 1946, at Saint Joseph Catholic Church, Manistee. They enjoyed nearly 70 years of marriage, first living in Stronach, then at their home in Oak Hill, until his death on February 1, 2016.

An accomplished homemaker, Rogene enjoyed baking, sewing, crocheting, embroidery, and reading. She is remembered especially for her Easter "raisin coffee cake" that she lovingly shared with family and friends for many years. In recent months, she embroidered prolifically, creating many treasured items. She loved time spent with her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren, especially at family holiday gatherings. She was devoted to the rosary, praying it daily, and was a life-long member and communicant of Divine Mercy Parish (Saint Joseph Catholic Church).

She is survived by her daughters Bonnie O'Bryan, Betty (Robert) Kran, grandchildren Sean O'Bryan, Jeremy (Jammie) O'Bryan, John (Shannon Biros) Kran, Carrie Kran, great-grandchildren Logan and Eoghan O'Bryan, Cheyenne and Savannah Robbins, and Oliver Kran, sister-in-law Minnie Zatarga, and many wonderful nieces, nephews, and their families.

In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by her son in-law, Michael D. O'Bryan, sister Nancy Baker Harris, brothers Frank (Helen) Baker Jr. and Gerald (Gertrude) Baker, in-laws John and Anna Zatarga, her husband's siblings Adeline, Ted, and Ben Zatarga, Clara (Ed) Bajtka, Isabelle (John) Wojciechowski, and Richard (Mary) Zatarga, nephew Patrick LaFreniere and nephew and godchild James Baker.

Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Tuesday, May 1, 2018 at 12:00 Noon at Saint Joseph Catholic Church (249 Sixth Street, Manistee) with Reverend Zeljko Guberovic as celebrant. Burial will follow at Mount Carmel Cemetery. The family will receive friends on Monday, April 30, 2018 at the Herbert Funeral Home (706 Kosciusko Street, Manistee) from 2:00 to 4:00 PM and 7:00 to 9:00 PM and on Tuesday morning from 11:00 AM until the time of departure for the church.

Relatives and friends will pray the Rosary at 7:30 PM and the Evening Vigil Service at 8:00 PM on Monday evening at the Herbert Funeral Home.

Memorial contributions in Rogene's name may be made to the Divine Mercy Parish. Envelopes are available at the funeral home and will be at the church on Tuesday morning.
