Obituary

Rose Fortier of Manistee age 86, passed away on Thursday, April 15, 2021 at Nancy's House AFC.

Rose was born on August 14, 1934 to Raymond and Agnes (Cachura) Helminiak.  She graduated from Manistee High School in 1952.  On August 21, 1954 Rose married William (Bill) Fortier.  Together they raised their three children in Manistee.

Rose's work history was very diversified.  She waitressed, worked in the bookkeeping department of the Manistee Shoe Manufacturing Company, served ice cream at the Dairy Queen, helped cater events, decorated cakes, worked at Carl's IGA, Dewey's IGA and the Manistee County Commission on Aging Meals on Wheels Program.  She was a lifetime member of St. Joseph Catholic Church (Divine Mercy Parish).

Rose enjoyed playing cards, dominos and bingo.  Baking was another favorite past time.  Many enjoyed her tasty treats, especially during the holidays.  But, with the exception of her grandchildren and great grandchildren, nothing brought a bigger smile to her face than dancing.  It didn't matter if it was a quick polka or a smooth waltz, she was out on the dance floor.

Rose is survived by her three children, Sara (Rick) Linke, Shelly (Dave) Mix and Scott (Gretchen) Fortierr, grandchildren Mike (Jessica) Linke, Jackie (Ryan) Wahr, Colin (Stephanie) Linke, Cassie (Tod) Archer, Dustin Mix, Travis (Sarah) Mix, Heather (Adam) Sundbeck, Amber (Mike) Wichman, Marissa (Brady Kuphal) Fortier, Noah (Misty) Fortier; eight great grandchildren; sister Helen Scherbinski; brother Ronald Helminiak; brother-in-law Edward "Ray" Fortier and sister-in-law Jane Fortier as well as many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, sister Genevieve Lipski, brothers-in-law William Scherbinski, Douglas "Knoby" Fortier, Percy Fortier Jr., James Fortier and Milton Fortier, sisters-in-law Laverne Helminiak, Marjorie Fortier and Marcia Fortier.

Rose's family would like to thank the staff at Nancy's House AFC for the exceptional care, kindness and compassion they provided her with.

Due to the Covid 19 a private family Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated by Reverend Zeljko Guberovic at Saint Joseph Catholic Church in Manistee. Burial will follow in Mount Carmel Cemetery.

Those wishing to remember Rose are asked to consider a donation in her name to the Manistee County Meals on Wheels Program of the Guardian Angel's Church Restoration Fund.

The Herbert Funeral Home of Manistee is in charge of funeral arrangements.
