Thomas Francis Morong, age 77, of Freesoil, Michigan, died Sunday morning, December 3, 2023 at the Oakview Medical Care Facility in Ludington, Michigan.

He was born on November 5, 1946 in Manistee, Michigan and was the son of the late Francis John and Audrey Marie (Wobszal) Morong. Tom was a graduate of Freesoil High School with the class of 1965.

He was employed for over 42 years at the Packaging Corporation of America in Filer City, until his retirement. While working at PCA, Tom, also found time to operate the family farm, in Freesoil. Tom had a kind and gentle spirit about him, and he watched over and was a great care taker of his mother, Audrey, for many years. He was very conscious of the environment in his farming operations, as well as keeping himself very physically fit. He played recreational basketball in the Manistee leagues for many years. Tom was an avid fisherman who loved being on the lakes, streams and rivers, looking for a good catch. He was a member of St. John Cantius Catholic Church of Freesoil.

He is survived by two sisters, Joanne Aerts of Hart, MI, and Elaine Peterson of Ludington, MI, three brothers, Paul Morong of Manistee, Mi, David Morong of Freesoil, MI, and Gerald Morong of Muskegon, MI., three nieces, Shelley (Tom) Gregwer, Deanne Criswell and her partner, Patrick Murphy and Kelly (Chris) Wiser, two nephews, Bryan (Angela) Aerts and Jason (Anne) Aerts. Numerous grand nieces and nephews also survive him.

Tom was preceded in death by his parents, Francis and Audrey Morong, two brother's in-law, Lee Peterson and Allen Aerts and by his sister in-law, Geraldine "Geri" Morong.

Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Wednesday, December 13, 2023 at 11:00 a.m. at Saint John Cantius Catholic Church in Freesoil, with Reverend Dan DePew celebrant. Burial will follow in the Saint John Cantius Church Cemetery, also in Freesoil where a funeral luncheon will be held at the Freesoil Community Center.

Relatives, friends and the members of the Saint John Cantius Rosary Society will pray the rosary on Tuesday evening, December 12, 2023 at 8:00 p.m. at the Herbert Funeral Home in Manistee. The family will receive friends, at the funeral home, on Tuesday evening from 6:00 to 9:00 p.m.
